In 2023, as part of my practice-based research, I initiated the Studio Kitchen project. Initially, this plan stemmed from my love of cooking for others, and in response to the challenges faced by artists, educators and students with different aesthetics, cultural backgrounds, and personalities, to take the first step towards creating a positive and friendly community atmosphere when sharing a studio space.
In the studios I became interested in the potential of cooking to strengthen our bonds as a diverse community of learners. As I conducted more research on the artists in this field such as Kirsha Kaechele (2019) and Rirkrit Tiravanija (1992), I began to think about the functions and values that the social event of food might offer.
Studio Kitchen III is my third exploration of interactive performing arts in the space of art education. Leveraging the power of food to transcend different cultures, values, and aesthetics, Studio Kitchen enables individualised development while creating more opportunities for exchange among artists. The project has developed iteratively, exploring convenience, boundaries, discipline, rules, and modes of communication. By inviting more people to join, this activity is continuously being shaped and developed by both the participants and me.
