Moments Before Recognition
What happens when a familiar surface becomes difficult to recognise?

This work explores perception through the use of an active and mutable material. Using photography and video, I am interested in the moment when surfaces temporarily resist recognition, appearing unstable, unfamiliar, or difficult to identify. Rather than presenting fixed images, the work focuses on how visibility shifts through changing conditions of light, texture and framing.
As light interacts with folds, reflections, and directional textures, emergent images are shaped not only by the material itself but also by the viewer’s position, memory, and sensory experience. Through this process, perception becomes less fixed and more relational, unstable, and open-ended.
A video work explores how meaning is shaped through narration, authority, and systems of representation. In doing so, it also reflects on the ways in which we often accept what we are given without questioning how it has been framed.
